چکیده

Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering, Science Faculty of University of Lisbon, Portugal The Siemens BrainPET scanner is a hybrid MRI/PET system. PET images are prone to motion artefacts which degrade the image quality. Therefore, motion correction is essential. The library PRESTO converts motion-corrected LORs into highly accurate generic projection data [1], providing high-resolution PET images. ITK is an opensource software used for registering multidimensional data [2]. ITK provides motion estimation necessary to PRESTO. For this study the Utah phantom, a brain phantom and clinical images were used. The data was simulated with different statistics and included scatter and random events. The data was reconstructed using OP-OSEM [3] with 41 iterations. The patient was

Advanced Motion Correction Methods in PET

With the arrival of increasingly higher resolution PET systems, small amounts of motion can cause significant blurring in the images, compared to the intrinsic resolutions of the scanners. In this work, we have reviewed advanced correction methods for the three cases of (i) unwanted patient motion, as well as motions due to (ii) cardiac and (iii) respiratory cycles. For the first type of ...

Impact of PET - CT motion correction in minimising the gross tumour volume in non-small cell lung cancer

AbstractObjective: To investigate the impact of respiratory motion on localization, and quantification lung lesions for the Gross Tumour Volume utilizing an in-house developed Auto3Dreg programme and dynamic NURBS-based cardiac-torso digitised phantom (NCAT). Methods: Respiratory motion may result in more than 30% underestimation of the SUV values of lung, liver and kidney tumour lesions. The m...

Respiratory motion correction in prostate cancer positron emission tomography: A study on patients and phantom simulation

Introduction: To investigate the effects of breathing cycle and tree diaphragm motions on prostate cancer tumors standard uptake value (SUV) during positron emission tomography (PET) and to correct it. Materials and methods: Respiratory motion traces were simulated on the common patient breathing cycle and tree diaphragm motio...

Reducing the respiratory motion artifacts in PET cardiology: A simulation study

Introduction: There are several technical features that make PET an ideal device for the noninvasive evaluation of cardiac physiology. Organ motion due to respiration is a major challenge in diagnostic imaging, especially in cardiac PET imaging. These motions reduce image quality by spreading the radiotracer activity over an increased volume, distorting apparent les...

Motion Correction of Whole-Body PET Data with a Joint PET-MRI Registration Functional

Respiratory motion is known to degrade image quality in PET imaging. The necessary acquisition time of several minutes per bed position will inevitably lead to a blurring effect due to organ motion. A lot of research has been done with regards to motion correction of PET data. As full-body PET-MRI became available recently, the anatomical data provided by MRI is a promising source of motion inf...
